Full moons are for releasing. Every full moon I write a list of things to let go of in my Moonolgy Diary, so in honor of last night’s full moon I’m sharing the #1 thing I chose to release.

Imposter Syndrome

I made a huge breakthrough this month when it comes to imposter syndrome- something I’ve been struggling with for years. Last night, I choose to let any remaining bits of imposter syndrome go. I have a hard time taking myself seriously as a writer and online creative, and those feelings have been impacting my work and self esteem. I decided to start tracking my blog stats daily and making lists of my accomplishments. Through doing this, I can see that my blog gets thousands of views per month from people all over the world. I’ve had articles shared by online news sites, other blogs, social media pages, etc, and those shares are continuously driving even more traffic to my blog. I saw that several of my blog posts are ranking high on Google, which is key in readers finding me.

Even if I’m not killing the social media game with a hundred thousand followers, I’m still making a meaningful impact, and people are reading what I’m writing.

As many of you know, I’m currently preparing for National Novel Writing Month, but found myself hitting a wall when it came to plotting my chapters. After analyzing my blog posts to see which ones were performing the best, I knew I had to pivot my novel from fiction to non-fiction. My book will be based off of one of my most popular blog posts. Once I decided to pivot my focus, I was able to outline all of the chapters within a few hours.

When I took a step back, I realized that I was the one holding myself back from being successful in outlining my chapters. I was telling myself that whatever I had to write wasn’t going to be good enough, and it was stopping me from taking action. Seeing my current stats was the little bit of motivation I needed to believe I can be successful.

With social media giving us the ultimate look into people’s lives (or what they want us to see), it’s easy to let comparison get the better of us. Just because someone else appears to be sucessful, doesn’t mean that you aren’t. Your work, and your words have value- don’t let imposter syndrome make you believe that they don’t.

journal prompts for the full moon

Even though the full moon was last night, you can still harness it’s power to release things that are no longer serving you (or save these prompts for the next full moon). These are some of my favourite full moon journal prompts from my 2021 Moonology Diary by Yasmin Boland:

  • Which grudges do I need to release?

  • Where do I feel boxed in? Am I imagining it?

  • Where is my energy best spent?

  • How can I detach from my biggest fear or worry?

  • What am I refusing to relinquish?

  • What are my beliefs around money? Do they need to change?

  • What are some ways I can create my own luck?

What are some things you need to release?
